Unearthed: Amethyst Hudson

For as long as I’ve known Amethyst, she’s always had an artistic flair with everything she does, whether it be visual art, cake decorating, or fashion. Throughout her teenage years, this creativity orientated towards makeup, and now at only 19, it’s hard to believe Amethyst’s talent is completely self-taught.

Alongside studying Interior Architecture at Uni SA, Amethyst manages her own makeup artistry business and has clients for weddings, formals, parties, and other special events.

“When doing makeup I love implementing neutral colours, warm tones, popping highlighter and a strong focus on the eyes.”

Amethyst recently participated in RAW Artists Adelaide, which is an independent arts organisation that showcases indie talent in visual art, film, fashion design, music, performance art, hair and makeup artistry, and photography. She had seven models that she did bold, eccentric and exaggerated makeup looks on, and each had their own unique style.

But Amethyst is more than just a makeup artist, she’s a YouTuber as well. She creates makeup tutorials that are creative and interesting, and her videos on male makeup, creating a look with cheap children’s makeup, and festival inspired makeup sets her apart from other YouTubers.

“I learnt everything I know about makeup through YouTube, and now I want to give others the same opportunity to learn.”

So far her YouTube channel has racked up 5,972 views, which is incredibly impressive for a channel that’s only five months old. Alongside doing makeup tutorials, she also has a few vlogs as well. If you were as unfortunate as me and missed out on going to Splendour in the Grass this year, check out the next best thing; her day-by-day vlogs of the event.

If you’re wanting to learn how to perfectly wing eyeliner, blend eyeshadow, and cover that stubborn pimple (I still have no idea at 19 years old), look no further than Amethyst’s channel. Even better, book her in for your next formal event, she charges only $45 for a full face and her collection of products is endless, so you can’t go wrong.
